Mariona Caldentey has won the Women’s Professional Game’s WSL Player of the Year award.
With nine goals and five assists in the Barclays Women’s Super League this season, our super Spaniard was also presented with our Mastercard Player of the Season award ahead of Saturday’s 4-3 win over Manchester United.
“I’m super happy because I really enjoyed my first season here. Everyone helped me,” Mariona said.
“It was kind of easy to move from Barcelona. It’s a highly-competitive league but I have enjoyed it.”
For this award, she was up against teammate Alessia Russo who won the competition's Golden Boot, as well as the FWA Player of the Year earlier in the week.
The other nominees across the division were Aggie Beever-Jones (Chelsea), Sandby Baltimore (Chelsea), Kiko Seike (Brighton), Mary Fowler (Man City), Maya Le Tissier (Man United), Olivia Smith (Liverpool) and Shekiera Martinez (West Ham).
