Match report: Arsenal U-18s 1-2 Chelsea

Plange

WHAT HAPPENED

We were beaten in our opening U-18 Premier League South game of the season on Saturday, as Chelsea ran out 2-1 winners at London Colney.

A total of five first-year scholars featured, with Luke Plange coming off the bench to score his first goal at under-18 level.

Chelsea started brighter and they were soon rewarded through Armando Broja, who raced behind our defence and provided the finishing touch to a blistering counter-attack.

This sparked a response from our youngsters as Sam Greenwood fired wide from the edge of the area, before Kido Taylor-Hart saw his glancing header cleared off the line.

The game evened out in the second half with heavy wind playing its part, but the visitors struck once more 12 minutes from time with Broja doubling his tally from close range.

Plange’s late strike, a composed finish from six yards out after fine work from Greenwood in the build-up, proved to be nothing more than a consolation.

WHAT’S NEXT

Ken Gillard’s side will be looking to bounce back against Aston Villa on Saturday, August 17.

The game will take place at Bodymoor Heath Training Ground with kick-off at 12pm (UK time).
