Our under-21s were knocked out of the Premier League 2 play-offs by Manchester City, who had finished the main season top of the league, with a 3-2 defeat on Saturday.
Khayon Edwards gave us an early lead before Louie Copley got a second at the beginning of the second half.
Ashton Muir pulled one back with 15 minutes remaining and Lakyle Samuel equalised at the end of the second half to take the tie to extra-time.
Divin Mubama scored the winner with only 14 minutes to go to send City to the semi-finals.
What happened
Edwards, who was the star of the show in our play-off round of 16 win over Newcastle United with a last-minute winner, picked up where he left off by opening the scoring in just 50 seconds, slotting into the bottom left corner.
Charles Sagoe Jr had a great chance to double our lead in the 18th minute, taking a shot that Spike Brits managed to get a hand on.
We had a promising counter-attack, during which Michal Rosiak found Sagoe Jr making a run down the left wing. He crossed the ball in for Edwards, who unfortunately couldn't get a touch on it.
After an overall quiet first half, we went into the break with a one-goal lead.
One became two just four minutes into the second half as Copley darted into the penalty area and chipped the Man City goalkeeper to double our advantage.
Sagoe Jr then impressively dribbled his way into the penalty box, before passing to Jack Henry-Francis who blasted the ball towards the bottom right of the net, but the shot was stopped by Brits.
City pulled one back in the 75th minute when Khari Ranson could only clear the danger as far as Ashton Muir, who made no mistake.
The hosts then had a goal ruled out for offside as they continued to pile on the pressure, and in the end it paid off for City, Samuel netting in the 94th minute for 2-2.
Henry-Francis shot from just outside the penalty area but the ball sailed over the bar with our first effort of extra-time, before Charlie Grey made a great run at the other end run towards the centre of the penalty box. He blasted the ball towards the right side of the net, but was denied by a great save from Ranson.
City eventually took the lead for the first time in the game in the 106th minute, Mubama finding the back of the net for 3-2.
