WHAT HAPPENED
Our under-23s slipped to another defeat on Saturday as they were beaten 4-0 by Liverpool.
Coming into this game, only a point separated the two sides - but the hosts were full of confidence after a dramatic 3-2 victory over Chelsea just one week earlier.
We started on the front foot, though, and looked dangerous in transition with Reiss Nelson breaking forward at pace and squaring for Nikolaj Moller, who was unable to make contact at the final moment.
Liverpool had barely had a sight of our goal but, with a lapse in concentration from Ryan Alebiosu, we gifted possession away inside the area and Layton Stewart duly found the bottom corner.
Catalin Cirjan came close to an equaliser shortly after, rattling the post from Tolaji Bolaâs cutback, but we were made to pay for our missed chances on the stroke of half-time, as Jake Cain doubled Liverpoolâs advantage with a powerful strike into the top corner.
Cain then went on to score his second of the afternoon just two minutes after the restart, firing home from the edge of the area, before Ben Woodburn made it four, finishing from close range.
