After we fell to a narrow 1-0 defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, Steph Catley has shared her thoughts on the result.
Speaking after the full-time whistle, our Australian defender reflected on fine margins, missed opportunities and using our positive momentum to bounce back quickly.
Here is everything she had to say:
on the fine margins against Chelsea...
Yes, I think what it comes down to are the small moments and who’s going to take their opportunity. It’s disappointing because it was a good spectacle, a good game to watch, it was end-to-end, lots of good chances, and it’s come down to a penalty, really small margins so it’s very disappointing, I think we were building some really good momentum coming into this game, it was a good chance to get some points back. It wasn’t to be so, we’ve still got a lot of good opportunities to do something amazing this year, so keep moving forward.
on not making the most of our chances...
Yes, definitely, I think we’ll look back at that first half in particular and some of the missed opportunities and turnovers they had close to their goal that maybe we didn’t make the most of, those are the things that matter in these games, we know that. It just wasn’t our day today, we’ll look at that and hopefully be better, we’re probably going to come up against them at some stage but, we’ll get to that.
on reviving our positive momentum...
Yes definitely, I think, on the back of the start of our season, I think the way we’ve been regaining ourselves, building momentum towards where we are now, it’s been a slow process but it’s been a good one and I think we’re in a good position now where we’re playing the football we know we can, we’re playing the Arsenal way and we just need to keep building on that and the results will come.
on our incredible away support...
Yes, it’s nothing new for our lot, they’re incredible, they follow us wherever we are, they sell out every away end and they’re so loud, when we’re hearing them in the warm-up it just makes you feel like you’re right at home and I mean we can’t thank them enough for their support and hopefully they know we’ll keep fighting for them.
