Celebrating International Women’s Day

exploring arsenal

Throughout the month, Arsenal in the Community has organised a range of activities, workshops, and discussions aimed at inspiring the next generation of young women. These events have provided a platform to share experiences, highlight achievements, and encourage ambition, reinforcing our commitment to equality and opportunity for all.

EXPLORING ARSENAL

We were delighted to host our annual Exploring Arsenal event, welcoming over 60 female students from local secondary schools to Emirates Stadium.

The initiative aims to introduce young women to a wide range of career opportunities in football, inspiring them to consider a future in the industry.

Throughout the day, club staff from our IT, media, and marketing teams—alongside our community staff—led interactive workshops, giving students a hands-on experience of different roles. Each session was designed to help them explore potential career paths and discover what excites them most.

Sophie Smith, a teacher from Parliament Hill School, reflected on the impact of the event:

“As part of International Women's Day, our school attended a partnership event focused on empowering young girls in sports, particularly football. The inspiring club tour showcased not only the game but also diverse roles in IT and media. Engaging with successful women in these fields broadened the girls' perspectives, highlighting various opportunities in the sports industry. The event left students motivated and excited about their potential pathways, making it a memorable experience.”

Exploring Arsenal is part of our Premier League Inspires programme, funded by the Premier League and PFA. The programme harnesses the power of football to help young people reach their potential and runs year-round across schools in Hackney, Camden, and Islington.

IWD Workshops

To mark International Women’s Month, we hosted a series of workshops at the Arsenal Community Hub, inviting local primary schools to take part in educational activities that use football to celebrate women and girls.

After discussing the successes of Arsenal Women, the children created posters featuring inspirational quotes to empower women and girls around the world. They also explored this year’s theme, ‘Accelerate Action’, reflecting on how we can all play a part in ensuring equal opportunities for women and girls in every aspect of life.

The workshops are delivered as part of the Premier League Primary Stars programme, funded by the Premier League through the Premier League Charitable Fund, which helps children stay active while developing essential life skills.

Arsenal in the Community works with over 20 other partner schools across Islington, Camden, and Hackney, using football to engage, inspire, and empower young minds.

Arsenal Girls Double Club

Our Arsenal Girls Double Club brings together the best of both worlds—education and football. The programme mirrors a match, with 45 minutes of classroom-based learning and book reading, followed by 45 minutes of football coaching, promoting teamwork, literacy, and physical activity.

To celebrate International Women’s Month and World Book Day, we gifted free books to our community participants—and they absolutely loved it! Huge thanks to the National Literacy Trust for their support.

Arsenal Double Club is proudly backed by the Premier League and the PFA through the Premier League Charitable Fund, helping clubs tackle inequality and build inclusive communities.

Supporting Active Girls Festival

Our Coach Development Programme coaches ran a pitchside workshop at Whittington Park, focusing on the Premier League Primary Stars value: ‘Be Connected’.

This fantastic festival was organised by Carmen Blanco, PE and Sports Lead for local primary schools Torriano and Brecknock. Carmen invited young girls from local schools to celebrate International Women’s Day by trying out different sports in a safe and inclusive space.

The Arsenal in the Community team loved supporting this special event and helping to inspire the next generation of girls in sport!
