Islington’s Parent Empowerment Champions (PECs) have been awarded the No More Red white jersey in recognition of their work and advocacy in the local community.
The group, which was established in 2021, provides peer-to-peer support to parents and family as part of a public-health approach to violence reduction.
Since launch, the PECs have undertaken various initiatives, including collaborating with practitioners to deliver knife-harm prevention workshops in secondary schools, peer-to-peer workshops in more than nine primary schools, co-hosting community events to promote youth safety and training 112 new police recruits on community engagement.
As part of the jersey award, Arsenal in the Community joined forces with the PECs to deliver a community event for local parents and children on Sunday. Young people present enjoyed a football session delivered by Arsenal coaches while parents took part in workshops.
