Our FA Youth Cup journey advances to the fourth round on Saturday as we travel to the AXA Training Centre to face Liverpool at 5:30pm (UK).
In the third round, we began our campaign with a resounding 7-1 victory over Crewe Alexandra. Despite trailing by a goal at half-time, our team young Gunners put on an impressive second-half goalscoring display, with Ethan Nwaneri contributing five goals, and Luis Brown and Omari Benjamin also finding the net.
A look at Liverpool
A player to keep an eye on is striker Jayden Danns, son of current Tranmere Rovers assistant manager Neil Danns. He has notched nine goals in nine league games this season and netted both goals in the Reds' late 2-1 victory over Fleetwood Town in the third round.
Additionally, Liverpool are performing well in the U18s Premier League North, currently sitting in second place with 24 points from 12 games.
Previous meetings
Playing against Liverpool brings back memories of us lifting the trophy in 2009 when we triumphed in a 6-2 aggregate win over the Reds in the final. Notably, Jack Wilshere was part of that winning side.
Since 2009, we have faced Liverpool twice in the FA Youth Cup and emerged victorious on both occasions. The first encounter occurred in the 2015/16 season, where we won 2-1 in the quarter-finals at Emirates Stadium, with current first-team winger Reiss Nelson featuring.
In the 2017/18 season, we met the Merseysiders again in the fourth round, coming from behind to win 3-2 after extra-time at Anfield. This thrilling match featured the likes of Emile Smith Rowe and Bukayo Saka, with the latter scoring a crucial equaliser in the 85th minute before Tyreece John-Jules secured the winner.
