Caitlin Foord was all smiles after our comprehensive defeat of Liverpool at Emirates Stadium on Saturday.
Our forward got the ball rolling for us in a dominant first-half display, prodding home the opening goal from close-range after being set up by Frida Maanum.
It was the Australian’s 50th goal for us in all competitions, in her 157th appearance since joining back in 2020.
“I’m super proud to score 50 for Arsenal,” Caitlin told us at full-time. “It's an honour to be able to do that and to play for the club and contribute as much as I can. So I’m very pleased.”
Caitlin’s strike was followed by our second within 90 seconds, to lay the platform for another big win at Emirates Stadium.
“I think that tends to be what happens when we score early,” Caitlin added. “We started fast, got one early and then one not long after. It definitely helps to take the pressure off and then you see we can play even more freely after a few more goals.
“Obviously they knocked us out in the cup and we had a bit of revenge to have to get back at them and that was in the back of our mind going into this game. We’re glad to get the win and to do it comfortably.”
Caitlin was also delighted for Victoria Pelova, who made her competitive comeback in the second half, after her ACL injury had ruled her out of action for the past ten months.
“She is buzzing. We're all so happy for her. It's kind of been each game you want it to happen, then for her to be able to come in for her first game back and to do it here at the Emirates in front of the crowd, in front of her family as well - it's one she'll definitely remember and hopefully one of many more now to come back. She's a special player and she strengthens our squad even more now having her back in.”
