Gabriel has been voted by our supporters as our men’s Player of the Month for January.
The Brazilian defender came on top of our poll, scooping 37% of the votes to narrowly pip Declan Rice to the trophy, who came in second place.
The Brazilian centre-back played every minute of our nine matches during a bumper month of fixtures, and some sterling work at the back saw us win five of those. Two clean sheets came his way in the successes against Dinamo Zagreb and Wolves, when he also captained the side in Martin Odegaard’s absence.
Big Gabi also made his 200th appearance for the club against Girona, and got on the scoresheet for the fourth time this campaign against Manchester United in the FA Cup. He also played a crucial part in our 2-1 win against Tottenham, as his header went in off Dominic Solanke to get us back on level terms.
It is the fifth time Gabriel has won our monthly award. He claimed three in a row in his first few months at the club back in 2020/21, before also claiming the January award this time last year.
That means only Bukayo Saka, Mesut Ozil, Alexis Sanchez and Santi Cazorla have been named Player of the Month more times than Gabi since it began being awarded back in 2012/13.
