Loan Watch: Agyemang earns two POTM awards

Michelle Agyemang won back-to-back Player of the Match awards on loan at Brighton & Hove Albion Women last week.

On Wednesday, she played 90 minutes of a 3-0 win away to Birmingham City, the goals coming from Guro Bergsvand, Maisie Symonds and Fran Kirby to send the Seagulls to the top of Group D in the FA Women’s Continental Tyres League Cup.

Then, on Saturday, Michelle scored the fourth and final goal - and her first for Brighton - in a 4-2 win at home to Aston Villa, placing the ball into the bottom left corner.

Rachel Daly gave Villa the lead but Nikita Harris equalised straight after. Pauline Bremer put Brighton 2-1 up before Daly equalised from the spot. A Fran Kirby penalty was then followed by the fourth goal from second-half substitute Agyemang in the 97th minute.

“The team is really encouraging of the players on the pitch,” she said. “Those who came onto the pitch brought a lot of energy, getting ready to fight for 50/50s, second balls and that’s come to a good result.”

Brighton are third in the Barclays Women’s Super League with six points from three games.

It was also a positive week for Teyah Goldie at London City Lionesses, as she came on at half-time in Thursday's 1-0 Conti Cup win away to Southampton, Maddi Wilde’s 86th minute winner the difference between the two sides.

On Sunday, Teyah scored the opening goal of a 5-1 win at home to Portsmouth, before four goals came from Isobel Goodwin. London City are fourth in the Barclays Women's Championship with 10 points from five games.

In the Premier League, Fulham were no pushovers for Manchester City in Saturday’s meeting of the two sides at Etihad Stadium, and Reiss Nelson added another assist to his name after coming on in the 77th minute.

Andreas Pereira put the Cottagers ahead before a brace from Mateo Kovacic turned the game on its head. Jeremy Doku made it 3-1 but Rodrigo Muniz pulled one back from Nelson’s cross to half the deficit

Marco Silva’s side are eighth in the Premier League with 11 points from seven games.

Overseas, Nuno Tavares continues to lead the way for assists after he set up a goal for Mattia Zaccagni in Lazio's 2-1 win at home to Empoli on Sunday.

With his fifth assist of the season, Nuno is second only to Bukayo Saka (seven assists) for the most assists in the top five European leagues.

Fabio Vieira came on in the 78th minute of FC Porto's 3-3 draw at home to Manchester United in the UEFA Europa League last week.

Marcus Rashford gave United an early lead, one that was doubled by Rasmus Hojlund in the 20th minute, but goals from Pepe and Samu Omorodion saw Porto go ahead, before Harry Maguire’s 91st minute equaliser.

Porto are 24th in the Europa League after the first two games.

On Sunday, Fabio came on in the 69th minute of a 2-1 win at home to Braga. Galeno put Porto ahead from the spot on the brink of half-time before Roger Fernandes reduced the arrears, but Pepe restored Porto's lead in the 59th minute.

They're now second in the Liga Portugal, three points behind Sporting Lisbon.

In La Liga, Karl Hein played 90 minutes of Real Valladolid's 2-1 defeat at home to Rayo Vallecano on Saturday. After Selim Amallah gave Valladolid a second-half lead, a brace from Jorge de Frutos left the hosts empty handed and 19th in the division with five points from nine games.

Things are looking more positive for Sevilla after Sunday's 1-0 win at home to Real Betis, which Albert Sambi Lokonga came on in the 72nd minute of after returning from injury. Dodi Lukebakio got the only goal of the game from the penalty spot.

Sevilla are now 12th in La Liga with 12 points from nine games.

Finally, Charles Sagoe Jr came on in the 73rd minute Shrewsbury Town's 2-0 defeat at home to Stockport County last week, the goals scored by Ethan Pye and Kyle Wootton.

He was then on the bench for Saturday’s 2-2 draw away to Bolton Wanderers, which left Shrewsbury 22nd in League One with five points from 10 games.
