Fabio Vieira notched his first assist in Europe for FC Porto, but it wasn't enough as they were knocked out of the Europa League by AS Roma.
Heading to Rome following a 1-1 draw in the first leg, Fabio flicked his header into the path of Samu Aghehowa who spectacularly fired Porto into the lead.
But a double from Paulo Dybala and a late strike from Niccolo Pisilli ensured Roma progressed 4-3 on aggregate.
In Italy, Nuno Tavares started for Lazio and played 56 minutes in his side's 0-0 draw against relegation-threatened Venezia.
This was Nuno's third Serie A start in a row for his loan club but was replaced just before the hour mark by Manuel Lazzari as Lazio were held to a stalemate in Venice.
Over in Brazil, Marquinhos was a second half substitute in Cruzeiro's penalty defeat to America-MG in the Campeonato Mineiro.
After drawing the first leg 1-1, the score was the same in the second leg when Marquinhos was introduced on 65 minutes for Carlos Eduardo.
The sides could not be separated in normal or extra time as the game went to penalties, with William and Marlon Xavier missing the spot kicks for Cruzeiro.
It was a weekend to forget for Karl Hein at Real Valladolid, as he played 90 minutes of Sunday’s 7-1 defeat away to Athletic Club to remain bottom of La Liga with 15 points.
In England, Brian Okonkwo played 90 minutes of Hitchin Town’s 1-1 home draw to St Ives Town.
The result keeps Hitchin Town in 21st position in the Southern League Premier Division Central.
