Mead assists in big Lionesses win

Beth Mead celebrates with England

Three of our players were involved in England’s big 5-0 win over Belgium on Friday night.

Beth Mead provided the assist for the third goal of the game with a cross into the box, converted by Aggie Beever-Jones at Ashton Gate.

Mead played 90 minutes, while Alessia Russo and Leah Williamson both got 73 minutes under their belts.

The Lionesses are top of League A Group 3 in the UEFA Women’s Nations League with seven points, one point ahead of Spain, who beat Portugal 4-2 away from home on Friday, with Mariona Caldentey playing 70 minutes of that match.

Elsewhere in the competition, four of our players were involved in Netherlands’ 3-1 win at home to Austria.

Daphne van Domselaar, Manuela Zinsberger and Laura Wienroither all played 90 minutes for their respective nations, while Victoria Pelova came off the bench in the 63rd minute.

Netherlands are second in League A Group 1 in the Nations League, level on seven points with Germany, while Austria are third on three points

Katie McCabe also got an assist on Friday, whipping in a corner for Jessie Stapleton to score from in Republic of Ireland’s 4-0 win way to Greece.

Ireland are second in League B Group 2 of the Nations League, three points behind Slovenia.

Stina Blackstenius was involved in Sweden’s 3-2 win at home to Italy, playing 73 minutes as they went top of League A Group 4 with seven points from three games, while Amanda Ilestedt was an unused substitute.

Norway were held to a 0-0 draw away to Iceland, with Frida Maanum playing 90 minutes of that match to go second in League A Group 2, two points ahead of Iceland and five behind France.

Lastly in the Nations League, Lia Walti played all of Switzerland’s 2-0 defeat at home to France. They’re now bottom of League A Group 2 with one point.

There was plenty to celebrate for our young Lionesses on Wednesday, as five Gunners featured in England under-19’s 6-0 win at home to Belgium.

Vivienne Lia scored twice and played 90 minutes, while Laila Harbert scored the fifth goal of the game and played 87 minutes.

Katie Reid played 90 minutes, helping to keep a clean sheet, and Jessie Gale came on in the 60th minute before scoring the final goal.

Cecily Wellesley-Smith also came on in the 87th minute as England went top of Group C in the UEFA Women’s Under-19s Championship qualifiers.

At under-23s level, Teyah Goldie played 90 minutes and Freya Godfrey got 83 minutes as England lost 2-1 away to Spain in an international friendly.

Meanwhile, Rosa Kafaji played 90 minutes of Sweden under-23s’ 2-0 friendly win away to Belgium.

Last but not least, Steph Catley, Kyra Cooney-Cross and Caitlin Foord were all involved in Australia's 1-0 friendly win at home to South Korea.
