Steve Gatting spoke to Arsenal.com after his side beat Norwich City 1-0 in the U21 Premier League Cup on Tuesday.
Read a trasncript of what he had to say below:
on the performance…
It was a tough game, as you would expect going away to Norwich - they play quick football. In the first half I thought we passed the ball well, competed well and had the best of the chances. In the second half we dug in and defended with intelligence and determination.
on Afobe getting a goal after his long spell out…
It's good for Benik [Afobe]. He took his goal well and when he was on he caused problems to their back four a lot of the time. It's just a shame he had to come off with a hamstring problem.
on showing character towards the end of the game…
We showed a lot of character. The back four probably had their best game of the season. I was very pleased with the two young centre halves and when he was needed Matt [Macey] in goal kept us in the game.
