David Raya’s excellent stop against Manchester United is a contender for the Premier League Save of the Month award - and you can help him win it!
Our Spanish shot stopper’s incredible reach and reactions came to the fore in our 2-0 win against Manchester United at Emirates Stadium in early December, securing him a spot on the six-player shortlist to clinch the trophy.
David added to his ever-growing collection of top stops this season in the 56th minute of the game against the Red Devils. Bruno Fernandes clipped a free-kick into the area which was met by the head of Matthijs de Ligt and zipped towards the top corner.
However David lept upward and managed to get his fingertips to the ball, pushing it away from danger and allowing us to clear the ball to safety.
It was a crucial moment in the game as it protected the 1-0 lead we had established just three minutes earlier through Jurien Timber, and set us on our way to another three points when William Saliab added our second.
The other keepers up for December’s prize are Nottingham Forest’s Matz Sels, ex-Gunner Emiliano Martinez of Aston Villa, Chelsea’s number one Robert Sanchez, Stefan Ortega of Manchester City and Ipswich Town custodian Christian Walton, with David hoping to win his second award of the campaign following his tremendous shot-stopping against Aston Villa in August.
Supporters’ votes will be added to the opinions of a panel of experts, meaning you can help sway the outcome by voting for David until 11am on Monday, January 6 (UK time).
