David Raya’s heroics between the posts against Wolves on Saturday have earned him a nomination for the Premier League’s Save of the Month for January.
Our shot-stopper kept his eighth clean sheet of the league campaign at Molineux as he kept the hosts at bay to help us grind out a 1-0 success, but one moment in particular caught the eye.
In the 63rd minute of the game with us down to 10 men following Myles Lewis-Skelly’s controversial dismissal, we were defending resolutely and when William Slaiba headed a Nelson Semedo cross out of the box there looked to be little danger.
The ball dropped to Wolves’ talisman Matheus Cunha, who skillfully wriggled his way between Kai Havertz and Declan Rice to line up a shot from just outside the D. He took aim and saw the ball clip Saliba and spun awkwardly towards our net.
However, David showed great reactions to shuffle and spring across his line to claw the ball away for a corner, providing us a platform to go and grab the winner via Riccardo Calafiori 11 minutes later.
Having won August’s award for his incredible stop against Aston Villa, our number one is looking to add another award to his collection - and your votes can help him do it!
He is up against Newcastle United’s Martin Dubravka who has two selections for fine saves against Wolves and Southampton, while Nottingham Forest’s Mats Sels is another contender, who also denied Wolves in style during the month.
Ipswich Town’s Christian Walton is also a nominee for denying Brighton, as is Leicester City’s Jakob Stolarczyk for thwarting Son Heung-min during his side’s victory at Tottenham.
You can vote for David now until midday on Monday, February 3.
