Renée on bouncing back with important win

Renée Slegers was happy on Friday evening as we returned to winning ways with a well-fought 3-1 win away to Everton.

“It was a very important result, especially after performance and result that we weren’t happy with last Sunday,” said our head coach after the game. “I’m very happy with the way that we come back, how we got together and performed. I think we looked like ourselves today. I think we played well.”

After exiting the Adobe Women’s FA Cup in the quarter final stage, Renée emphasised that the squad were able to overcome their disappointment quickly to focus at the task at hand.

“Leading into the Everton game, I think the girls have been very focused and determined and been together and been training really well. I think you could see it today on the pitch as well. It was a very strong mentality from the girls to be able to put this football on the pitch today.”

Tonight’s win take us up to second place in the WSL table, a step closer to securing Champions League football for next season. Before then, of course, a European quarter-final against Real Madrid awaits.

“It’s super important. Now we’re going to go into the Champions League quarter-final against Real Madrid on Tuesday and that’s where we want to be.

“It’s very cliché but we go game-to-game so we haven’t been talking about Real Madrid at all. We wanted to do really well today and get a result against Everton and that’s what we did so now we’re going to focus on Real Madrid.”
