Russo and Kelly on derby day delight

Alessia Russo and Chloe Kelly were over the moon following Sunday's 5-0 north London derby win in the Barclays Women's Super League at Emirates Stadium.

Russo forced the opener when she met a Kyra Cooney-Cross ball into the box before seeing her shot deflect in courtesy of Clare Hunt.

Our in-form forward officially got herself on the scoresheet in the 58th minute, picking out the bottom left corner with aplomb for 4-0.

There was also plenty to celebrate for Chloe, who came on for her second Arsenal debut with half an hour to go, 2,815 days since her last game for us in 2017.

"It was so nice to be back here at the Emirates in front of so many fans," Alessia told us after the game. "Five goals and a massive performance."

"It was absolutely amazing," Chloe added. "The fans were incredible today. They really showed their support and they were loud. We definitely heard them and it was amazing to step onto this pitch for this amazing club and what a way to do it in the north London derby.

"This is what dreams are made of, to step out in a full Emirates Stadium. It's incredible."

It took just six minutes for Chloe to play a ball over the top to Alessia, demonstrating the understanding they've developed playing together for the Lionesses.

"We've played with each other for so long now at youth age groups with England, and now sharing the pitch at the Emirates with the Arsenal badge on our chest is incredible," Chloe explained. "And she's a natural goalscorer. She makes our job easy, so I'm really enjoying it today."

Winning the ball in the final third was a frequent theme for us throughout the match, and that was something the team had spoken about beforehand, Alessia said.

"Yeah, we're really keen on putting pressure on teams," she explained. "I think it's one of our strengths. It's important for us to set the tone of the game early and we did that. We've got players that can press at a really high intensity as well, so it was nice to see that happen today."

With two of our goals hitting Hunt and wrong-footing Lize Kop on the way in, Alessia spoke about how much the attacking players are encouraged to get shots away, and how Emily Fox now has license to go for goal from wherever she likes after her 90th-minute rocket!

"You don't shoot, you don't score, or you put it in top bins like Foxy did with the perfect strike! But no, it's great. We've got so many different attacking threats and people that can score goals. So yeah, it's nice to see them do it today."

Lastly, on another memorable afternoon in N5 with 56,784 supporters in attendance, TV cameras spotted that two of them were Bukayo Saka and Jurrien Timber, showing once again the fantastic sense of togetherness among the club.

"Yeah, it's really nice," Alessia said. "We work together every day. We're in the gym with them. It's really nice. You feel that one-club vibe here at Arsenal and yeah, it's a special place."
