Alessia Russo’s brilliant curling strike against Aston Villa has topped our Emirates Goal of the Month poll.
Our in-form striker has completed a double in December by winning both our women’s Player of the Month and the club-wide goal prize, with 48% of our supporters deeming her effort against the Villans as the best from a shortlist of nine.
The Lionness’ goal against Valarenga came in second place to give Alessia a one-two finish, while Gabriel Jesus’ hat-trick-clinching goal against Crystal Palace rounded off the top three.
This month’s winning moment came in the dying stages of our 4-0 success against Villa at Emirates Stadium. Lina Hurtig put a cross into the box which was picked up by Paula Tomas, but Alessia nicked the ball off her toes, took a touch and whipped a shot past former Gunner Sabrina D’Angelo.
The worthy winner is a contender for the WSL’s own Goal of the Month award, and was one of six strikes that Alessia bagged during her fine end to 2024.
It is the third month in succession that one of our women's players has won our club-wide vote, with Caitlin Foord being October's recipient, before Frida Maanum triumphed in November.
