Saliba named in Euro 2024 Team of the Tournament

William Saliba celebrates France beating Portugal

Thanks to his impressive displays for France, William Saliba has been named in UEFA’s Euro 2024 Team of the Tournament.

Our centre-back has made the all-star XI thanks to his displays for Le Bleus, as he helped them reach the semi-finals before losing to eventual winners Spain.

The champions make up the majority of the side with six representatives - Player of the Tournament Rodri and recipient of the Young Player award Lamine Yamal, plus Marc Cucurella, Dani Olmo, Fabian Ruiz and Nico Williams.

Saliba was joined by teammate Mike Maignan, Kyle Walker was runners-up England’s only selection, while nods also went to Manuel Akanji of Switzerland and Germany’s Jamal Musiala.

UEFA had a technical observer at every match, including the likes of Fabio Capello, Rafael Benitez, David Moyes and Frank De Boer, who selected the Player of the Match for each game, considering their individual performance and impact on their team. These were taken into account when selecting the competition's dream team.

William excelled in Germany, playing every minute of his nation’s six matches on their route to the semis. He kept four clean sheets in those matches, keeping Austria, Netherlands, Belgium and Portugal at bay as he forged a fine partnership with Dayot Upamecano in the heart of Didier Deschamps’ side.

He is the first Arsenal player to be selected since Aaron Ramsey's displays for Wales were rewarded in 2016, with Patrick Vieira (2000) the only other time one of our players has made the team.
