Timber – 'Our character can take us far'

Jurrien Timber was full of pride for how he and his team-mates battled back from adversity to take all three points against Wolves on Saturday.

The defender played his part in a resilient, battling display, after Myles Lewis-Skelly had been controversially sent off late in the first-half. We finally got the breakthrough late on when Riccardo Calafiori rammed home, earning three valuable points. Afterwards, Jurrien said it felt like a big win.

“It does, if you see everything we went through today. It’s not the first time, but the way that we reacted in the second half, we can be really proud of the players and a much-deserved win today.

“You still want to win, you have to play with courage, you have to go for that goal and at the same time, you can’t concede.

“We knew it was going to be tough and we sacrificed a lot and in the end, we really deserved it.”

Jurrien also praised the travelling supporters, who more than played their part in the victory.

“The fans were massive today, they pushed us through,” he said. “You can feel the energy, I think that’s really important, that connection between the players and the fans.

“That’s such a massive thing sometimes it’s underestimated but I think today they really pushed us through and you see the goal that we scored, the energy that comes out of there, feels really good.”

The win extended our unbeaten run in the Premier League to 13 games, but Jurrien added that the team can take a lot from the manner of the win as well.

“It’s reacting to that adversity you know, I think the character of this group can bring us really far. Also, we have amazing players, a lot of belief in this group that we can achieve amazing things, just have to keep going, still a long way to go and I have a lot of trust in them and today we showed again why we are this good.”
