U18s preview: Fulham v Arsenal

fulham v arsenal

Adam Birchallā€™s under-18s make the short trip to south-west London to face Fulham in the fifth round of the FA Youth Cup on Friday, January 31. Kick-off at Motspur Park is at 7pm (UK time).

Our young Gunners head into this fixture full of confidence after a 3-1 comeback victory over West Ham United in our last match. Goals from Max Dowman, Daniel Oyetunde, and Ceadach Oā€™Neill sealed a vital three points.

Previous Round

In the fourth round of the FA Youth Cup, we triumphed in a dramatic tie against Queenā€™s Park Rangers. Andre Harriman-Annous and Max Dowman were on the scoresheet in normal time, before Louis Zecevic-John looked to have won it in extra time. However, after Emmerson Sutton completed his hat-trick in the dying moments to make it 3-3, our Gunners held their nerve in the penalty shootout, with Jack Porter making two crucial saves.

The Opposition: Fulham

Fulham have enjoyed a strong start to their under-18s league campaign, currently sitting fourth in the table with 19 points from 10 games (six wins, three losses, one draw).

Like us, they come into this fixture on the back of a victory, having beaten Southampton 2-1 last weekend.

Their FA Youth Cup journey has been particularly impressive, winning both previous rounds away from homeā€”a 4-0 victory over Notts County in the third round, followed by a 4-1 win against Exeter City in the fourth.

If we are to progress, weā€™ll need to be at our bestā€”Fulham havenā€™t lost a game since 2nd November. One of their key threats is Tom Wingate, who has already scored five goals in the FA Youth Cup this season. Wingers Macaulay Zepa and Farhaan Ali Wahid have also been in fine form, providing plenty of attacking danger from the flanks.
