Our under-21s take on West Bromwich Albion on Monday, April 14 in what will be our final game of the Premier League 2 regular season. Kick-off at the ARMCO Stadium is scheduled for 6pm (UK time).
Mehmet Ali’s side have been in blistering form lately, winning four and drawing two of our last six games, scoring 15 goals in the process. We fought well to come from behind to lead Derby County 2-1 at Meadow Park last time out, but a late goal for the visitors earned them a share of the points.
Our unbeaten run has seen us guarantee a play-off spot already, but, depending on other results this weekend, we may need to win on Monday night in order to finish in the top eight of the Premier League 2 table.
This would be beneficial, as it would give our young Gunners a home tie in the first round of the play-offs.
The Opposition
West Brom have struggled for form lately, drawing one and losing three of their last four games. Their 0-0 draw with Leicester City last time out keeps them in the running for a play-off spot, but realistically, the Baggies will need to take at least four points from their remaining two games to finish in the top 16.
A deep run in the Premier League Cup has been the highlight of West Brom’s season. The run came to an end just two weeks ago with a 3-2 quarter-final defeat to Queens Park Rangers.
Central midfielder Harry Whitwell is one to watch, having scored seven goals in 14 games this season. The England U18 international also made his professional debut in the FA Cup last term.
