After grabbing the first goal of our 2024 US Tour in style, Fabio Vieira revealed that he and his teammates' hard work on the training ground was the secret behind his fine strike.
17 minutes into the game against Bournemouth in Los Angeles, some excellent wing play by Reiss Nelson carved out an opportunity, and the Portuguese playmaker was perfectly placed to volley into the bottom corner.
And he admitted that was a move that he had been working on over the past few weeks as he aims to add more goals to his game, and with one under his belt already he is delighted that practice makes perfect.
“It’s something we train for every day in the training ground,” Fabio revealed post-match. “We have been creating a lot of these positions in the box as it’s also very important to score goals. I’m happy to score this goal for Arsenal.
“I’m feeling very well. Of course this is the start of the season, and everyone is working hard to get fit and do the best for the team. I’m very happy to be here, help the team as much as I can, and we are working hard.”
Fabio may only be 24 years old, but against the Cherries he found himself in the strange position of being one of the eldest players Mikel Arteta named in his starting XI.
However he was impressed with how the crop of academy kids performed during his time on the field, and feels that the experience of coming on tour has already shown benefits for the generation of talent coming through.
“I’m very happy with them,” he added. “The way that the kids played was very good, and everyone is working hard as I said before. We’re very happy to have them here helping the team and let’s keep going.”
