Vivienne Lia has become the latest young Gunner to sign a first professional contract with The Arsenal.
The 18-year-old winger has gone from strength to strength after making her senior debut against London City Lionesses last February and has now committed her future to north London.
"It’s an amazing feeling. Signing for my childhood club makes it that bit more special," said Viv, in her first interview after putting pen to paper. "A lot of people know how special this club is and how much it means to me, so it’s really just a dream come true!"
Viv rose through the ranks of our academy after joining at age 14 and she attributes her growth to the academy's blend of high performance and support.
"The academy environment is so unique. They know how to push you outside of your comfort zone so that you grow, ultimately, but also to help you to become a better person. It’s amazing to go on this journey with my closest friends as well. We get so excited for each other and we support each other so much."
Since making her debut and heading on a summer tour to the USA with the squad, Viv has remained grounded in day-to-day progress and continued hard work.
"I’ve experienced a lot in the last year and it’s helped me to grow a lot as a person and also as a footballer. It’s helped me to embrace my own individual journey and know that if I just continue to work hard, there will be doors that open up because of that.
"You find ways to push yourself but also enjoy the journey at the same time. To enjoy every training session and just embrace the people that you’re around as well - that’s the most important thing."
