Wubben-Moy: "We're one big family"

Lotte Wubben-Moy at The Hub on Christmas Day

Our centre-back Lotte Wubben-Moy spent Christmas Day taking part in our annual Christmas dinner for young people in foster care in our local area.

Since 2011, we've partnered with Islington Council’s Leaving Care Service through our Care-Experienced Young People’s programme and since 2016, this has been supported by the Premier League and Professional Footballers Association.

Administered through the Premier League Charitable Fund, the funding helps football clubs to tackle inequality and respond to local challenges, supporting people and their communities to be more inclusive.

Additionally, every Christmas Day since 2017, we’ve hosted special celebrations for care-experienced young people from Islington at The Arsenal Hub.

The event on Christmas Day this year saw approximately 40 care experienced young people come together with the guests played football, video and board games before having Christmas Dinner together. They also received a Christmas hamper provided from our charity partner HisChurch along with other gifts.

Lotte, who grew up in our neighbouring borough of Hackney, spoke about why our local community is so close to her heart.

“This is a special time of year and it’s important we support each other and be there for each other. Arsenal does so much good work locally, and it was a privilege to be part of this initiative. The community is at the heart of everything we do and it's so worth it when you see the young people having fun together, playing games and enjoying their Christmas dinner. We are one big family – we want to ensure that as many people as possible feel the love.”

You could really make a difference to a child’s life by becoming a foster carer.

Islington need foster carers to look after local children and young people. Find out how rewarding fostering can be by calling 0207 527 7933, email fostering@islington.gov.uk or visit islington.gov.uk/fostering.

This season 24 professional football club community organisations across the Premier League and English Football League are delivering projects supported by the Premier League and PFA in their Communities.

Nationally, these funded projects have engaged more than 230,000 unique participants in more than 330,000 sessions across England and Wales. Projects are supported by current and former professional football players, and scholars, to enhance their impact on participants.
