We are delighted to announce that Theo Julienne has signed his first professional contract at the club.
Theo has made 14 appearances for our academy sides in all competitions this season, already surpassing his 12 games for the under-18s last term.
He has featured predominantly in the U18 Premier League, but has also played in the FA Youth Cup, the UEFA Youth League with our under-19s and Premier League 2 for our under-21s.
Theo has also represented England at international youth levels.
Speaking to Arsenal.com, Theo said: “Obviously it’s a great feeling to sign for this club. I’ve been here a while now, I joined when I was 13, so I’m happy that I’ve signed.
“The highlight so far has got to be winning the Liam Brady Cup with under-16s! That was a tough tournament with teams like Flamengo, but we got through and won.”
Versatility is one of Theo’s biggest traits, as he can be deployed in midfield or at full-back.
“I prefer playing in midfield,” he said. “I think that’s where I’m best. But I’m happy to do whatever I need to do to help the team win. But I think midfield is where I can impact the game the best.
“My strengths are getting out of tight spaces, finding the spare man, beating the press, and off the ball I’m aggressive. I like to get into challenges.
“There are a lot of things I need to work on - shooting, maybe my understanding of the game at times - but you can always work on things to get better.”
Adam Birchall took over as under-18s head coach earlier this season following Jack Wilshere’s departure, and Theo says it’s been a smooth transition.
“It’s good, Birchy has high standards of us and makes sure we work hard every day and every match. I think the rest of the season will be good with him.”
