Ahead of Saturday’s visit of Aston Villa at Emirates Stadium, Martin Odegaard and his teammates are in high spirits.
It was an electric atmosphere in N5 on Wednesday night for our north London derby win over Tottenham Hotspur, and our captain is keen to make the most of the momentum and positivity to work towards another three points on the weekend.
“It’s always a great feeling when you win the derby,” he said. “The atmosphere was unbelievable and the fans were really happy. We have to use that momentum now. We have to recover and get ready and we want to win every game.
“Every year it feels like there are more games and they’re more intense, but that’s what we want. We want to fight and compete in every competition, so we have to get used to playing every three days, recovering and playing again.
“We’re in a good position although we went out of the FA Cup. I think we’re still doing really well and have got to keep pushing. Our goal is to win things. That’s the mindset of everyone here. The main thing is what we do in the daily life in training, coming in every day to push each other to get better. I see a very hungry team.”
Martin was also asked about how much he’s enjoying the role of club captain in our team, as well as the more recent role of being a father at home!
“The responsibility is something I enjoy,” he said. “I’m really proud to be captain of this big football club. I’ve done it for a few years now and I’m learning and improving all the time. I really like it. There’s always pressure but it’s something the team enjoys. We’re all happy to be where we are.
“I’m just trying my best to be the best in both lives, on the pitch and off the pitch! My wife is amazing, doing an amazing job at home and I try to help her as much as possible. It’s going well.”
