Porto manager Paulo Fonseca believes the Emirates Cup is an important part of his team’s pre-season preparations.
The Portuguese champions will kick-off the tournament against Galatasaray on Saturday before playing Rafael Benitez’s Napoli on Sunday.
Fonseca, who succeeded Vitor Pereira in June, added that playing games against Champions League teams would help his side ahead of their European campaign after being knocked out by Malaga in the Knockout Round last season.
“Playing two big teams is a key part of our preparations,” he said. “We are looking forward to playing Galatasaray and Napoli, who often compete in the Champions League. These games will be two good tests for us and our improvement as a team.
“We are aware of our potential in Europe but there other strong teams who can win it. But Porto competes for every title in every competition. That is the culture of this club.”
