Per Mertesacker says Arsenal must “embrace the challenge” against Monaco on Tuesday night.
The Gunners trail 3-1 from the first leg of their Champions League last-16 clash and must make history if they are to progress.
But Mertesacker says that recent results have lifted spirits and fired the belief that they can reach the quarter-finals.
"Monaco have a really good side, they showed that against us, but we are quite confident and want to put things right"
“We are coming out of a great week, with two important wins and we have a good level of confidence,” the vice-captain said.
“There has always been a good mood in the squad and during the season we have responded well at times. But we have to face the truth and show a different face [on Tuesday night].
“We need to embrace the challenge, that is really important. Monaco have a really good side, they showed that against us, but we are quite confident at the moment and want to put things right.”
