Arsene Wenger says Robert Pires is the perfect example to younger players because he is “remarkable in his simplicity”.
The Arsenal legend played 284 times during a glittering six-year spell in north London, winning two league titles and two FA Cups.
Pires - who celebrates his 42nd birthday this week - is still a regular at the club’s training ground and Wenger is happy to have him around the team.
“The best advice Robert can give [others] is to play football [himself] because he is such a great example to watch for the young players,” the manager told Arsenal Player.
“When he is with the first team he plays with [established] players but for the young boys who learn their trade he is remarkable because of his simplicity.
“He is similar to Ozil, he makes things look simple when sometimes others make it complicated.”
