Sunday, July 10, Portugal 1-0 France (after extra time)
Tournament hosts France were denied their third European Championship title by Portugal on Sunday night. Both Laurent Koscielny and Olivier Giroud started in Saint-Denis, with the striker drawing a fine save from Rui Patricio after 75 minutes. His replacement, Andre-Pierre Gignac, went even closer at the death, twisting and turning inside the area before hitting his shot against the post. France continued to look the more likely in the additional 30 minutes that followed but Portugal substitute Eder secured a first major tournament trophy for his nation in the 109th minute, beating Hugo Lloris with a low 25-yard shot.
