WHAT HAPPENED
Despite a promising attacking display, our under-18s were beaten 3-2 at home to Blackburn Rovers in the U-18 Premier League Cup on Saturday.
We started as the stronger side and found our reward through an unlikely source, when Mazeed Ogungbo climbed high inside the area to head home from a well-worked corner routine. Schoolboy Charlie Patino provided the assist.
However, less than two minutes later the visitors were level, as they regained possession on a turnover and played a lofted ball over our defence, allowing Jared Horlock to race through on goal and fire into the bottom corner.
Rovers then went on to take the lead early in the second half through Brandon Lonsdale, before Chanka Zimba made it three with a simple finish from close range.
Nathan Butler-Oyedeji pulled one back from a corner late on, but it proved to be nothing more than a consolation as the visitors held their shape to secure all three points in Group A.
