As first goals for the club go, not many will top Martin Odegaard’s strike against Olympiacos in Athens.
The Norwegian international picked the ball up 25 yards from goal and struck a venomous shot into the roof of the net to open his account for us - and the man himself was delighted.
“It was a great moment,” Odegaard told Arsenal.com. “I was eager to get on the scoresheet and I didn't get any goals yet, so it was a good moment for me and also a crucial moment in the game to get a goal away from home and take the lead into half-time. It was a big moment for me personally and also for the team.
“I think we did really good, except for the goal we conceded I thought we were solid all the way. We dominated the game, we created a lot of chances but we gave away some easy balls. That we have to work on, but otherwise, I think it was a great game and a well-deserved 3-1 win.
“I think it shows the character in the team and the team spirit we have now. Players are coming on from the bench, changing games and scoring goals and I think it shows the team spirit and it shows the quality that we have in the team. Everyone is ready to participate and it was a big team win.”
