WHAT HAPPENED
We moved one step closer to Champions League qualification on Wednesday night as we secured a valuable 2-0 victory over West Ham.
Joe Montemurro opted to play Vivianne Miedema in the No 10 role - and his decision certainly paid off, as she delivered an outstanding performance from start to finish to secure our eighth consecutive win.
We ran out 9-1 winners the last time we faced the Hammers in the Women’s Super League, and once again, we created a number a number of clear-cut chances early on, only this time our finishing let us down.
First, Caitlin Foord forced Mazkenzie Arnold into a save from a diving header, before Jordan Nobbs fired wide from six yards out and saw her next effort disallowed for offside.
We grew increasingly frustrated as we passed the half-hour mark but, with a moment of magic from Miedema, we opened the scoring. Noelle Maritz started the move from a throw-in and Miedema cut inside on to her left foot, firing home with power and precision from 25 yards.
No other WSL player has scored more London derby goals than the Netherlands international (12).
The second half proved to be a tightly-contested affair with West Ham keen to keep the scoreline down - but late on we managed to break through their defence one last time, with Kim Little showing exceptional footwork to skip past two defenders and fire into the bottom corner.
Lydia Williams then went on to produce an exceptional save deep into stoppage time, ensuring we haven’t conceded a goal in over 720 minutes across all competitions.
