Twenty-two games, 22 wins. Arsenal Ladies completed a
'perfect' league campaign on Sunday with a comfortable 6-0
victory over Leeds United at the Arsenal training ground.
Kelly Smith scored a hat-trick to take her tally for the
season to 30 and Lianne Sanderson netted once to reach an even more
impressive haul of 40. Captain Jayne Ludlow and substitute Gemma
Davison were also on target.
As for Leeds? Well, like every other side in the Premier League
this season, they simply had no answer to Arsenal's pace, power
and finishing.
The 2006/07 campaign will be remembered for the Ladies'
unprecedented quadruple - the champions have also lifted the Uefa
Cup, League Cup and FA Cup. But this is perhaps their most
impressive achievement. Vic Akers' side have maintained their
lofty standards for 33 hours of league football, overcoming serious
injuries and no little fatigue to make history.
Look out for a week of content celebrating the Ladies'
achievements, beginning on Monday, May 28.
