Arsenal Ladies progressed to a League Cup quarter final tie at
home to Chelsea after winning 11-1 at Newquay of the Southern
Division.
The Ladies knew that Newquay, who are in second place in the
Southern Division would put up a good fight, and they did that in
the first 20 minutes.
They put a lot of pressure on Arsenal and didn't let them
play the fluent football they are used to. Rachel Yankey and Jayne
Ludlow finally broke the deadlock after 20 minutes, but Newquay
never gave up and got their reward minutes after.
Arsenal seemed to settle into the game after this and Ludlow and
Sanderson scored making it 4-1 as the half time whistle blew.
Arsenal's experience showed in the second half and
they created many chances. Yankey completed her hat trick,
Sanderson grabbed four goals and Faye Marsh and Lizzie Wicks
came on and scored their first goals at senior
level.
