Beth Mead has finished third in the voting for The Best FIFA Women’s Player for 2022.
Spain's Alexia Putellas was the recipient for the second year in a row, while USA star Alex Morgan came second - who received the same amount of points as Beth but edged her into third spot by having more first-place nominations.
The award recognises the most outstanding performers in the women’s game between August 2021 to July 2022. A total of 14 players were initially nominated having been chosen by a panel of experts, which included Leah Williamson who came eighth, while Vivianne Miedema was in 12th.
From this shortlist, the three finalists were been selected by an international jury comprising of four groups: women’s national team coaches, women’s national team captains, women’s football journalists and fans who voted on FIFA’s website.
Beth’s impressive 2021/22 campaign saw her named amongst the final three-woman shortlist ahead of the ceremony. She registered 11 goals and eight assists for us during the WSL campaign - the latter being the most in the division that term - and was subsequently named our Women’s Player of the Season.
She carried that form into Euro 2022, where she was influential during the tournament, netting a record six goals in a single edition, which included a hat-trick against Norway in the group stage. She also laid on five assists for her teammates, which was also the most during the competition.
As well as winning the Lionesses’ first major international prize, Beth also landed the Golden Boot and the Player of the Tournament award. She netted 13 goals for her country in the calendar year and was crowned England Women’s Player of the Year for 2021/22.
This is the latest accolade for Beth, who finished runner-up to Putellas in the Ballon d’Or and UEFA Women's Player of the Year, but won the BBC's Women's Footballer of the Year as well as the BBC Sports Personality of the Year.
She was also included in the FIFPro World XI for 2022, alongside Leah Williamson
